What happens to our data during a cloud migration?
Data is typically copied (not simply moved) from existing systems to the cloud environment, validated for completeness and integrity, and only cut over to the new system once it's confirmed accurate, with the original systems kept as a fallback during a transition period. Encryption in transit and at rest should be standard throughout.
A well-run migration treats your existing systems as a safety net, not something to switch off the moment the new environment is live — that overlap period is where most migration risk gets absorbed safely. The migrations that go wrong are usually the ones that cut over too quickly, before anyone has had a chance to confirm the data actually arrived intact.
